Coaching for more joyful aliveness
Why does life feel so hard at times? How can we live with difficult emotions? Why do we have negative self-talk? What is this experience of being alive? How can we make positive changes? What do wisdom traditions reveal? I’ve always been the sort of person who has lots of questions about life, looks widely for expert answers and shares what’s most useful.
After years of investigation, what I’ve discovered about how to live a less anxious and happier life myself now helps me in supporting others. People say they want to be happier but often they are only looking at external circumstances: as Joseph Campbell said, “we’re so engaged in doing things to achieve the purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value; the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about.” We can change how we engage with our thoughts and emotions. We can enhance our inituition and our discernment; overcome emotional blocks; increase our creativity; improve our health and more. We can experience the energetic nature of life and our connection to the vast potentiality of the field of which we are a part.
I love being a coach, working with people to facilitate new insights and more helpful perspectives. I love seeing people find their way to a happier life.
Coaching is a type of partnership that includes powerful conversations, focused around something you want to change in your life. Working with a coach helps you find new approaches to overcome challenges and achieve goals. Coaching can help you live with more ease, access insights, discover creative solutions and build better resilience to face whatever happens next.
Still curious, I follow developments in many fields including consciousness, neuroscience, spirituality, psychology and behavioural science, which all inform my coaching practice. Also, I draw on my personal experience, a strong intuitive sense and my long-standing meditation practice (mindfulness and loving-kindness).
Background
On the completion of my degree (BSc) in London, I went on to work in various creative and corporate sectors until I moved to Bath to co-found a successful brand & design company (www.myttonwilliams.co.uk). When this business was well-established, I decided to train as a coach. From 2009-19 I ran Bath Coaching Café to provide free drop-in workshops in local cafés. From 2011-2020 I also founded and ran a website (online guide and directory) to health, fitness and wellbeing in the Bath area.
My training includes a Counselling and Psychotherapy foundation certificate, later followed by coach training in 2007 with the ICF-accredited Co-Active Training Institute (CTI). Other courses have included NLP, family constellations and more. Since then I’ve coached personal clients and run small-group coaching courses.
"I’ve found working with Sophie to be enormously helpful and inspirational. Our sessions have helped build my resilience, shift unhelpful patterns, focus more on positive thinking and outcomes, and also transformed my approach for addressing challenges. Sophie injects much warmth, enthusiasm, wisdom, life experience, practical tips and fun into our sessions. She also follows up with very thoughtful resources, tools and insights to help further motivate and encourage you on your own path.”
